"You Are Safe Now" — Ape Action Africa: 30 Years of Saving Great Apes
Ape Action is home to the largest semi-wild population of rescued Endangered Western lowland gorillas in the world. For over 30 years they have been securing a future for over 300 rescued primates at Mefou Primate Sanctuary. From the dedicated staff to the incredible wild-like forest enclosures, Mefou Primate Sanctuary is a gift to be shared with the world, despite the dark predicaments for why it's so desperately needed. Please help us spread the word about their work with great apes, and the challenges they face: deforestation, poaching, illegal wildlife trafficking, palm oil, disease, and more - in hopes that someday their helping hands won't be needed.
Ape Action Africa is a project partner with GLOBIO, expanding awareness and understanding of the plight of Cameroon's great apes and primates in the local schools and villages, and to the global community. Learn more about how we work together: www.globio.org/globio-news/

Some footage for this video was created before the Covid-19 pandemic forced new health & safety protocols. All footage was obtained through reputable, ethically-run wildlife sanctuaries dedicated to caring for their rescued primates and protecting their wild counterparts. Apes Like Us (under GLOBIO) and our partner programs in no way support the exploitation or trade of primates in any capacity (whether legal or illegal).
The sanctuary staff and caretakers shown in this video are experts at caring for these vulnerable, orphaned apes until they are strong enough to join larger primate families at these sanctuaries. Any human contact with these infants is for the babies' physical and mental benefit only.

    What this fails to recognise is that the NUMBER 1 driver for deforestation is clearing and burning to make way for pastures for livestock and crops grown and shipped worldwide to feed the billions of animals in factory and free range farms globally. Source: our world dats - drivers of deforestation and our world data - global land use. How we can help 1) Reduce or even better eliminate animal product consumption where practicable and possible (this BY FAR is number 1 deforestation driver and number 1 ocean dead zone driver) 2) Boycot palm oil ( second biggest driver) 3) Read lables and source sustainable products wherever possible We often think how dare these industries do this. However, what we forget is that Industry is fueled by supply and demand! The power to change these devastating environmental practices lies in each our hands. What will you choose to support? ☮☮💚💚

    Chimps fascinate me. I never get over how human-like they are in terms of intelligence and their grasp of social and group dynamics. Whenever I see a chimp, I see a variation of what we used to be and the possibility that one day they'll be where we are now thanks to the amazing craftsmanship of evolution.

    There aren't three species of Orangutan, only one. Those are sub-species.

    • @ApesLikeUs
      @ApesLikeUs 2 місяці тому

      Hi there. Yes, these are 3 distinct species. There are further subspecies: Bornean orangutan (Pongo pygmaeus) --Pongo pygmaeus pygmaeus - northwest populations --Pongo pygmaeus morio - east populations --Pongo pygmaeus wurmbii - southwest populations Sumatran orangutan (Pongo abelii - Sumatra northwest of Lake Toba) Tapanuli orangutan (Pongo tapanuliensis - Sumatra south of Lake Toba)

    • @dl2839
      @dl2839 2 місяці тому

      @ApesLikeUs I wouldn't consider those distinct species. I would consider them sub-species. The reason why they're so isolated is because the populations of Orangutans are drastically decreasing. If they weren't dying out, there would be populations of Orangutans between each other, and they would be considered one species like the American Alligator.
